Covid-19

What is happening in our locality, our country and our planet is completely unprecedented. Both parents/carers and children are finding the demands of lockdown and the stress brought on by the present situation to be a colossal challenge. As a school, who prides itself on being a pillar within our community, we want everyone to know we are there to support and guide during this time. Below are a collection of resources to help understand and explain the Coronavirus to the children and parents/carers we serve.

Coronavirus - A Book for Children

Brought to you by Nosy Crow, Coronavirus: A Book for Children is an awesome way of using images, speech bubbles and precise language to explain the current crisis. Written by staff at Nosy Crow - in conjunction with Professor Graham Medley (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine), two head teachers and a child psychologist - the book is a free and extremely helpful resource for parents and carers who are finding discussing Covid-19 a challenge.

All of the children at our school will recognise both Axel Scheffler's name and style of illustration from a wide collection of Julia Donaldson books - including the Gruffalo.

Carol Gray - Social Stories

Social Stories are a social learning tool that supports  the safe and meaningful exchange of information between parents, professionals and people with autism of all ages.

Pandemics and the Coronavirus written by Carol Gray is a Social Story aimed at explaining the Coronavirus to children who would like/need a clear, informative way of discussing the crisis.

Carol's Clubhouse library of all Social Stories is presently free and well worth signing up for.

Little Miracles Charity - Social Story

Below is a Social Story - similar to Carol Gray's above - about how the Coronavirus has affected schools, children and adults. For more information on this wonderful charity click here
